New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during their latest talk.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His family, they’re in good spirits and he is expected to recover fully.”

It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where his condition is described as critical but stable.

“Still unsure,” he added. “However, I can share, hearing him speak, he felt really upbeat. Furthermore, that reassures me, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.”

New York police shared security footage Monday of an individual wanted in the attack on the player. What prompted the attack is currently under review and officials stated it is unknown if Boyd was singled out. There were no additional victims as confirmed by officials.

The shooting happened in the early morning on Sunday morning near MSG and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, in his late twenties, was taken to a medical center after suffering a wound to the stomach, as reported. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has been in his thoughts “constantly” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a child.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he has a new baby,” Glenn said. “And I’m thinking about his wife, worrying about his newborn and I hope he recovers fully. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“A certain process is underway, that I won’t detail, but I am pleased that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd was inactive this season, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on mid-August with a shoulder issue that needed an operation.

Boyd came to New York as a free agent in spring and was anticipated to become a significant contributor of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. But Boyd was injured during preseason drills on August 2 and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has remained around the team during the entire campaign while healing from his surgery.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn stated. “Certainly, he is a regular at our matches. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, a Texas native, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by Minnesota out of UT in 2019. He later played for the Arizona Cardinals in last year and moved to Houston’s squad after that. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.6m with the Jets in March.
